Hoobilation!

Good Friday, everyone!

So.

...Kyle hurt his foot. Poor guy. I do feel sad for him, but I'm also a teensy bit happy for me. A whole Friday with Kyle. Yippee!

I even talked him into going grocery shopping with me. Which is great, because if you guys know me at all....you'll know I HATE grocery shopping. I think it's the ADD in me. I can stare at the shelves for 10 minutes looking for ONE thing, but I get too distracted be all the other options.

"Ooooh! I should make this!"
"Do we have that?"
"Do we need this?"
"That looks yummy!"
"It comes in mini sizes!?"

See what I mean? A thirty minute trip to the store turns into an hour a waaay too long visit.

Kyle, however, keeps me focused. He helps me stay on task. Good thing I keep him around.

Anyways. Back to the point of this post.

...see what I mean? Distractable.

Pinterest is great. Though I would highly recommend NOT getting on it if you are like me and lose track of time easily. Thirty minutes can turn to an hour which can turn into your whole afternoon. Not that this has happened to me...*cough*....

My lovely/crazy/awesome sister-in-law, Kelsey Joy, was searching Pinterest the other day, and came across some blue mason jars. Only they weren't really blue. They were new clear ones painted to look like the old blue ones. So, one evening Kelsey and my other lovely/crazy/awesome sister-in-law, Kerri Anne, decided to do it....er...give it a try more like.

This is what you'll need:
Glue
Dye
Jars
Brush

..and maybe some of this too. It's always a plus.

You wanna make sure they're nice and clean.

Then you mix your glue with some water. I could give you exact measurements, but I'm not sure what those are. You don't want the glue to be too thick that it won't spread on, but not too runny that it just runs off. It needs to be...like paint. :P

After you have a good consistency with that, add a few drops of dye. I would recommend using two blue and one green so it gets a little more "aqua" looking.

Then you start painting it one. I would use a soft brush, so the strokes are smooth. Also, you don't want to keep putting layer after layer cause it will goop up and be icky. Icky=BAD.

p.s. no matter what your crazy aunt willow says, don't eat the glue.

When you first layer it, it's going to look kinda bad (like the picture below), but be patient and let it dry.

After it dries it should look like this! Viola!!

It's not exactly like we were hoping, but I think it looks pretty darn cool!

The jar on the right is what it will look like if you use a "rough" brush. Strange, but cool in it's own right.

You can also do different colors if you want! We tried purple and it turned out pretty cool!

Happy list #456

  1. As soon as I get a job, I'm buying glass jars and going to town. I blame you :D

PS I wonder how it would turn out with Modge Podge instead of Elmer's glue...if I remember correctly, it comes in different finishes (basically, matte and gloss).

  2. Yeah, I was gonna say you could use Modge Podge instead, but I forgot. Now I am curious how that would turn out!

Um, yes...go get some jars and then you can tell me all the stuff you do! Also, I painted some pink for my room and they are awesome. I just haven't had a chance to post pics for you!
