with all my heart

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him,

and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6

As some of you know, for the past two+ years I've been a nanny to a little blonde haired boy named Jake. When you nanny someone for two-thirds of their life, it's a great possibility of them becoming like a family member. Well, that little stinker wormed his way into my heart and made my "job" not only something I looked forward to, but something that I loved dearly.

As a nanny you are constantly being torn between two thoughts. The first is never wanting to quit because you love that child like your own. The second is wishing the parents could spend more time with their child. (it's quite the dilemma)

Well, last week my second wish came true. My "boss" quit her job to stay home. Talk about being torn in two! I am so, so happy that she's getting to stay home and spend more time with her littles. I think every child needs their momma there for them. But because I'm a tad selfish, I'm also incredibly sad for myself.

Sad that I no longer get post nap snuggles or tackle hugs or "read" to for hours or told that I was "missed so much" or that I no longer get to hold his little hand and hear him pray over his lunch.

It is the epitome of bittersweet. *sigh*

Plans have been made for me to steal Jake away every now and then, and I'm determined not to let "life" get in the way of that.

As things are now a little unclear, and I'm trying to decipher what God has in store for me and Kyle, I've been reminded over and over how my God is the ultimate Provider. It's been a huge comfort knowing that He will supply all my needs, and just like Proverbs says God will make my path straight and my future clear. Any prayers or job advice or just advice in general would be greatly appreciated. :)

Also, in case you're curious...this is what I'm doing with all my free time:

  1. You might see if you can find a position that fits you in local non-profits. It's a great way to connect more with your local community. I have a feeling you just might have the kind of heart it takes.

    2. Well we have two open positions, but one is accounting, not your thing right? Kansasgirlscouts.com for the description. I belive the other Wichita position is a support staff for volunteers. I don't know of any good way to look specificly for non-profit jobs except using search engines like simplyhired.com or wichitahelpwanted.com, etc for non-profits. Maybe look into the non-profit scene in Wichita and try to find ones you think you'd like to work for first.

Also, House of Hope (I think?) at Pawnee and Greenwich has a help wanted sign up, but I don't know what their positions or even their ministry is.

Well, I have afternoons off. We should get coffee sometime... even if it's at each other's houses to save a little money. :-)

  5. I love that Proverb! It really speaks to me in times of trouble. I was laid off in 2012 and it took me a year to find a job. But you also have to consider the tough job market in my city (San Diego). I looked on LinkedIn and Craigslist a lot for jobs. I landed my current job from a Craigslist ad. Or consider your owning your own business! :)

    1. It's such a good reminder! I don't know how many times I've been a situation that I want to freak out and take control and God always gently reminds me of this verse and that He's in control.

Ugh! It's not a fun boat to be in! Hard to be patient and calm. Haha I hope you find something soon though!

    1. Haha! Being a nerd is side effect of being home alone too much. That is definitely one of my favorite pillows. My sister is a rock star and painted it for me! :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement, Amy!

  11. OMG. Two more things because I didn't see the post "after the jump"

    1. THAT VIDEO. HAHAHAHA. That music just makes me wanna daaaance. :)
    2. Another verse that really encourages me in moments like these is Philippians 1:6. It says that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ. I thought it would be relevant to you because it's a reminder that He's still writing your life story and HE (read: he, not you/us) will carry it onto completion. Thank you for being sharing.
