on the menu

1//2//3//4

I started my job this week! It's been going wonderfully! I really like the family I'm working for, and on top of that, the little boy's a cutie. :) Also, super awesome to get off work when it's still light outside!
I'm still adjusting to being back at work (aka I forgot to blog this week and I forgot to buy groceries). Time just slipped away from me!
(Also, what the hay? Thanksgiving is next week?!?)

Speaking of Thanksgiving, what are you guys making??
Since Kyle and I split Thanksgiving between both our families, there's lots of cooking involved. Luckily, we are just doing desserts at my family's so we don't have to worry about a lot of unimportant things like sides...just the good stuff. :)

Here's the problem:
*confession time*
I don't like pie.
I know, I know. I'm a weirdo.
I think most pies are just too sweet and mushy for my liking.
Apple crisps are usually okay because they have a little crunch, but other than that I usually steer clear.
Every year I tell myself to "try again," and every year I end up dissapointed.
What's a girl to do?!
I think maybe I just need to get creative with what pies I make...
(Like the Salty Honey Pie above...surely that's like a slice of heaven! )

As to the other things I'm bringing, I'm thinking a Feta Spinach Salad and some potato/veggie combo. Yuuuum.

What's your guys' favorite pie? What about sides??
(Last year I tried beets and I thought I was going to die.)

Okay...the little guy is gonna wake up any minute! Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Omg how do you not like PIE!? My mom always makes the BEST pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but my favorite is strawberry rhubarb :] But the dishes you're bringing sound amazing! Lucky for me I still live at home so all I have to do is help my mom out haha. No need for me to stress out about what to bring!

    1. I know! I *want* to like pie so badly...it's just never as satisfying as dessert should be. :P

Lucky!! I wish I didn't have to think about what to bring. I don't mind the actual cooking...it's figuring out what to bring that stresses me out!

    1. I'm so glad I'm not alone! I posted something on my personal facebook about not liking pie and I thought I was going to get banned from any sort of Thanksgiving get together. ;)

  3. I actually don't like pie at all! For exactly the same reasons you listed to be honest. Yay, pie haters unite!

What I usually do is make a chocolate mousse pie with a graham cracker crust. It's not a true pie, but there are always a zillion pies at Thanksgiving and no one has ever complained about getting to eat a little chocolate. ;)

  5. I have to admit, I am not the biggest pie fan either!! haha. But, I eat it during the holidays since I'm so used to it. AND, I also have to admit, my husband's grandmother's sweet potato pie is so amazing it doesn't even seem like pie!
