calligraphy and such

sorry things have been a little quiet around here. between having a wedding every weekend, keeping up with editing, getting ready to move, squeezing in time with kyle in the midst of finals, nannying, and designing some stuff for a friend's wedding....it's been so crazy it's been hard to find time to brush my hair and find clean clothes...just kidding....kinda. ;)

who ever knew life could be so exhausting!?

anyways, this morning kyle is at work, and i don't have to be at the wedding we're shooting until 1:30. (!!!) SO,  i thought it'd hop on here and catch up while i can! yay!

lately, before bed, kyle and i will binge watch parenthood and i'll practice calligraphy. it is so relaxing to me! i am sloooowly getting better. (big emphasis on slow here, people.) i still find myself holding the pen wrong or making my letters look all wonky...but not as often. so that's a plus! i also can't seem to manage not getting ink all over my hand when i write! problems of a right handed person who writes like a leftie, i suppose.

i thought i'd share some of my calligraphy favorites.

favorite letters: h, l, and o
least favorite letters: p, k, and r

favorite nib: tachikawa g nib
it's really flexible, without feeling like a noodle. it's from the same series as the popular nikko g nib..which is also great, but not quite as flexible, in my opinion.

favorite ink: baystate blue by noodlers ink
my friend just gave me this ink the other day, and i LOVE it. it's gorgeous and flows really, really well. it looks purple on the website, but it's quite blue in person. i also really like higgens eternal ink, black.

favorite holder: straight rosewood holder
my sister gave this to me for my birthday. it is GORGEOUS, and it makes me feel fancy when i use it. :)

favorite paperrhodia
for practicing i use sketch paper by master's touch from hobby lobby. it's super cheap and it doesn't leak through, which was exactly what i was looking for.

any of you guys dabble in calligraphy? what are some of your favorite tools of the trade?

  5. I hopped over from Amy's blog! Thanks for sharing all your calligraphy favorites. I'm thinking about trying my hand at it, but I could not figure put what was the best (and cheapest) paper to use. I have everything else because my Mom bought it all for my brothers years ago...Now, I will be all set! Were there any books or sites that you found especially helpful?
