willow lake, challenger point, & the attack of the mice.

i decided to skip posting pics from our sand dunes expedition because....well, there's already waaaay too many pics in this post. haha

saturday morning we woke up at the crack of dawn and headed to the willow lake trail head and began our journey. we were joined by one of my bestest friends, lisa, and her new husband. it was fantastic. the hike was phenomenally beautiful. i seriously couldn't get enough. everything was so green and there were wildflowers everywhere and aspens all over and MOUNTAINS. i could have spent all day up there. (actually we did....haha)

we hiked for about three hours to get to willow lake. one of the most gorgeous lakes i've ever seen. it was so blue and serene. after we rested and ate some snacks to replenish our energies, we began the trek up the side of the mountain.

it. was. stinking. intense.

no lie, we had to stop every like four steps to catch our breath. haha...i know, pathetic. it was partly because of the steep incline but mostly because of the altitude change. it took us like four hours to get to the top and then back down.

it was one of the hardest hikes i've ever done, but man...those views. there's nothing like it.

after we got back to camp (after eleven hours of hiking!), we thought our feet were going to fall off. i kept checking on them to make sure they were attached to my body. :P we decided to skip staying the night at camp again (because MICE, ya'll) and drove through the night to our home.

.....but back to the mice. they kept sneaking into our car. trunk AND cab. we kept wrapping up our food to keep them from it, but the sneaky little boogers ate our bread and our cookies (which is most tragic). so after having to throw out half our food, we went into town and bought some mouse traps. YOU GUYS. kyle caught sixteen in like an hour. SIXTEEN! he probably would have caught more, but we went to bed, and they were all full when we woke up. #shivers #killmenow #ihatemice #kylethemightymousekiller

okay. my ramblings have gone on too long. enough is enough. :) have a lovely week!

  4. haha as much as I love the outdoors, I am NOT a camper...not because of mice particularly, but the heinous eight-legged creatures also found in the wilderness. but seriously, gorgeous photos!

    1. Ew. Yes...I am not a big fan of spiders or mice. *shiver* Normally I can convince myself neither of those things are around me, but not this time. haha!
